Saturday April 26th | Capitol Forest Trail Work Party

The Need for Volunteers
In fiscal year 2012, the Forest Service reported that it accomplished at least some maintenance on about 37 percent of its 158,000 trail miles and that only about one-quarter of its trail miles met the agency’s standards.   Trails not maintained to quality standards have a range of negative effects, such as inhibiting trail use and harming natural resources. The Washington State DNR must rely more on volunteers to help protect our natural resources, promote safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences, and maintain our recreation facilities and trails.

9th Annual Great Gravel Pack In

WAATVA was excited to be able and participate in the 9th annual Great Gravel Pack In on March 29th, 2014. The Great Gravel Pack-In has become an annual tradition that showcases and celebrates the value of volunteers and importance of cooperative efforts. This year, volunteers helped spread gravel and repair damaged sections of trails in Capitol State Forest. Thank you to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for doing such a great job putting together the annual Great Gravel Pack In.
We’d like to say a special thank you to the event sponsors for making this event happy. We greatly appreciate their commitment to ourdoor recreation here in Washington State.
